| Sumario: | This article focuses on the essential artificial intelligence (AI) skills librarians need to remain relevant and effective in the evolving information landscape. It outlines seven core competencies: AI literacy and conceptual understanding, data literacy and management, natural language processing (NLP) awareness, programming basics and automation, AI tool evaluation and vendor oversight, AI for user experience and instructional design, and ethical reasoning and critical AI governance. The article emphasizes how these skills enable librarians to integrate AI responsibly into library services—such as search, metadata management, user interaction, and collection development—while upholding values of access, privacy, equity, and inclusivity.
