In this regard, we seek to develop the hypothesis that «Cartesianism» serves, in Foucault’s work, as a discursive object whose treatment allows for the delineation of turning points in what might be called a history of the subject’s relationship with truth. Este artigo tem por objetivo explorar as proximidades e distâncias entre História da loucura (1961) e A hermenêutica do sujeito (1982), obras que perfazem mais de vinte anos das pesquisas foucaultianas, a partir da maneira como Foucault lida com as figuras de «Descartes» e do «cartesianismo» nesses dois momentos cruciais de sua trajetória.
