| Sumario: | This article aims to present, in its broadest terms, the role played by Saint Augustine in the course The hermeneutics of the subject. We thus want to emphasize that the reference to the Bishop of Hippo is fundamental in several aspects of Foucault›s thought, from the moment the processes of subjection are displaced to the question of subjectivation—that is, to the set of techniques that aim to establish the subject›s relationship with himself. Here, we situate Augustine›s position within the question of memory and meditation, mediated by the confrontation with Platonism and the Stoics, to show to what extent Augustine approaches and departs from these two models. Este artigo tem a finalidade de apresentar, nas suas linhas mais gerais, o papel desempenhado por Santo Agostinho no curso A hermenêutica do sujeito. Com isso, queremos enfatizar que a referência ao Bispo de Hipona é fundamental em vários aspectos no pensamento de Foucault a partir do momento em que os processos de assujeitamento são deslocados para a questão da subjetivação, ou seja, para o conjunto de técnicas que visam a estabelecer a relação do sujeito consigo mesmo. Aqui, se trata de situar a posição de Agostinho no interior da questão da memória e da meditação, mediada pelo confronto com o platonismo e com os estoicos, para mostrar em que medida Agostinho se aproxima e se afasta desses dois modelos. |
