Sumario:The article focuses on the January 23, 2026, “Day of Truth and Freedom” in Minneapolis, when tens of thousands of residents participated in a citywide shutdown to protest aggressive Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids under the Trump administration’s “Operation Metro Surge.” Although labeled a general strike, labor unions did not officially call a work stoppage due to legal restrictions from the 1946 Taft-Hartley Act, instead encouraging peaceful protest and solidarity actions. The coordinated effort, supported by a coalition of immigrant justice groups, labor unions, and faith leaders, helped increase political pressure to reduce ICE’s presence in Minnesota and demonstrated the evolving nature of collective action in the face of contemporary legal and political challenges. Despite ongoing violence and the eventual end of the operation, the event highlighted the potential of community organizing and labor solidarity to influence immigration enforcement policies.
