However, beyond facilitating socialization, this space has also become a venue for perpetuating intra-minority prejudices—discrimination and stigma originating within the LGB + community itself—that negatively affect users' mental health. This study aimed to explore experiences of psychological distress and discrimination on the Grindr app. A total of 121 cisgender non-heterosexual men (M = 29.6 years, SD = 6.05) from various states across Brazil participated in the study, answering demographic questions and two open-ended prompts. The data were analyzed using Iramuteq software, employing the Descending Hierarchical Classification technique, which revealed three main thematic axes and six subjacent thematic classes. The thematic analysis highlighted the dual nature of Grindr: while it facilitates sexual freedom and practical socio-affective interactions, it also fosters objectification, psychological distress, and physical risks.
