With nuances, similar claims have been made regarding Thomas Aquinas. These readings challenge the description of premodern thought as characterized by a close alliance between speculative and practical knowledge: Understanding the universe and our place in it was considered the first step toward a right government of our own life. This paper collects some passages from Thomas Aquinas' Commentary on the Nicomachean Ethics, particularly from Book I, showing how they read moral theory in light of speculative philosophy. We focus on references to natural teleology, arguments supporting the unity of the ultimate end, the participation of particular goods in a subsistent separate Good, and the ergon argument. Considering these texts, we conclude that Thomas grants only a relative autonomy to practical reasoning, which is ultimately subordinated to speculative wisdom. Se ha extendido últimamente una interpretación de Aristóteles según la cual este defendía una autonomía del saber moral frente a las ciencias especulativas. Con más matices, se han sostenido tesis similares respecto de Tomás de Aquino. Esto rompería con una caracterización del pensamiento premoderno por la estrecha alianza entre saber especulativo y práctico: comprender el universo y nuestro lugar en él se consideraba el primer paso para saber cómo gobernar correctamente la propia vida. El presente trabajo recopila algunos pasajes del Comentario a la Ética Nicómaquea de Tomás de Aquino, particularmente del libro I, mostrando como en ellos la teoría moral es leída a la luz de la filosofía especulativa. Nos detendremos en alusiones a la teleología natural, los argumentos en favor de la unidad del fin último, la participación de los bienes particulares en un Bien separado subsistente y el argumento del ergon.
