| Sumario: | The letters of Photios of Constantinople (c. 810/820-after 893) represent a substantial body of information concerning the life of one of Byzantium's most prominent political and intellectual figures. Notably, in addition to the distinguished recipients and correspondents, including some family members, there are abundant demonstrations of his extensive knowledge across various fields such as mythology, politics, and theology. Despite this, scholarly attention to the letters, in general and in particular, has been scant. Consequently, the objective of this study is to analyze the Ep. 256, addressed to his brother Tarasios, in which Photios conducts a meticulous examination of the sense of three terms: περίψημα and κάθαρμα (1 Cor. 4:13), and ἐκολάφισαν (Mt. 26:67). This analysis will explore the methodology used to elucidate the meaning attributed to each term, as well as the sources employed to support his arguments. The aim is to enhance the understanding of Photios' lexical analysis and the relationship between his letters and other writings, including those by the patriarch as well as those by other authors. Las cartas de Focio de Constantinopla (810/820-después de 893) conforman un valioso grupo de información sobre la vida de una de las figuras políticas e intelectuales más importantes de Bizancio. Ciertamente, además de los destacados destinatarios y remitentes, incluidos miembros de su familia, por doquier hay muestras de sus vastos conocimientos en diversas temáticas, como la mitología, política y teología. No obstante, pocos han sido los trabajos concernientes a las cartas en general y menos, en particular. Así, el objetivo de este trabajo es el análisis de la Ep. 256, dirigida a su hermano Tarasio, en la que lleva a cabo una revisión detallada del sentido de tres vocablos: περίψημα y κάθαρμα (1ª Cor. 4:13) y ἐκολάφισαν (Mt. 26:67). De este modo, se examinará la metodología empleada para demostrar el valor que asigna a cada término, así como las fuentes que usa como apoyo para su argumentación. Con ello se busca ampliar en el conocimiento que se tiene del análisis léxico de Focio y el vínculo entre las cartas y otros escritos, tanto del patriarca, como de otros autores. |
