Summary:The article presents the findings of a study of the expressed learning problems of two-hundred-sixty pupils enrolled in the college preparatory biology course of a large suburban senior high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ninety-two percent of the boys had elected ninth grade general science, but only fifty-five percent of the girls had elected this course. It appears that boys should achieve additional scientific knowledge in tenth grade biology than girls if previous experience in ninth grade science included basic teachings in biology.
