Leonardo Polo assimilates these causes into elements of cybernetic theory, further situating them within a hierarchy that necessitates transcending causality itself. In Thomas Aquinas, the most profound sense of freedom –love– is understood as servitude according to the final cause. In both authors, love and virtue emerge as the core elements of free causality. In Polo’s work, this is articulated through two distinct neologisms, ‘hyper-formalization’ and ‘hyper-finalization’, the understanding of which requires an examination of freedom beyond the merely causal. Este artículo examina la noción de agente libre como causa sui en Tomás de Aquino y Leonardo Polo, analizando los sentidos causales activos (final, eficiente y formal) para determinar el alcance de la tricausalidad en la acción humana. Leonardo Polo asimila estas causas con elementos de la teoría cibernética y, además, las sitúa en una jerarquía que exige trascender la causalidad misma. En Tomás de Aquino, el sentido más alto de libertad, el amor, es la servidumbre según la causa final. En ambos autores emergen el amor y la virtud como elementos nucleares de la causalidad libre.
