The Annual Skills Validation (ASV) served as a platform to reinforce essential skills and ensure the delivery of safe and efficient patient care. However, scheduling ASV posed challenges due to variable shifts, multiple sites, operational hours, and limited instructor availability. Purpose: The purpose of this initiative was to implement and evaluate a peer-led instructional approach to address Instructor shortages and constraints of multiple Infusion Center Sites. This model aimed to consolidate resources and minimize the impact on patient scheduled treatments. Peer-led instruction would also enhance Learner engagement, reduce anxiety, and promote skill acquisition and knowledge retention while fostering mentorship between experienced and novice nurses. Interventions: Using Donna Wright's (2021) model, staff identified five core competencies essential to safe oncology practice. The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) team partnered with four nurses to form the ASV Team, overseeing training in logistics and implementation. Five skill stations were created, each led by a peer instructor and involving hands-on practice for groups of five RNs. Participants rotated stations every 20 minutes, with sessions embedded into existing staff meetings to reduce scheduling conflicts. ASV was held at two West Bay sites, with an additional makeup session. Results: A post-ASV Qualtrics survey (41 responses out of 70) revealed strong support for the peer-led format, with 63% strongly agreeing and 32% agreeing that it was beneficial. The topic relevance scored highest (4.64), while "learning something new" scored lowest (4.21), suggesting some content redundancy. Logistical concerns included crowded rooms and hearing difficulties. Discussion: In conclusion, a peer-led approach to ASV is crucial for addressing the increasing training demands in oncology nursing. This model fosters collaboration enhances learning and builds nurse confidence, with positive feedback underscoring its impact. While logistical challenges remain, and ongoing refinements will strengthen its effectiveness and further support high-quality, patient-centered care.
