| Sumario: | Symptom Management and Palliative Care Significance & Background: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is among the most common and distressing side effects experienced during cancer treatment. Many patients even report CRF as more debilitating than pain. It is marked by persistent, severe exhaustion that is not relieved by rest or sleep. Despite its prevalence and impact, effective treatment options for CRF remain limited. Yoga has emerged as a promising intervention to reduce CRF, yet it remains underutilized in clinical settings. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of yoga in reducing CRF among patients undergoing active cancer treatment by referring them for yoga and measuring outcomes using the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy - Fatigue (FACIT-F) scale before and after the intervention. Interventions: This prospective, quasi-experimental study used a non-randomized pre- and post-intervention design to evaluate the effectiveness of yoga in reducing CRF among patients undergoing active cancer treatment. Patient-reported outcomes were assessed using the FACIT-F scale. Participants included adults with solid tumor diagnoses who were receiving active treatment and agreed to participate. Fatigue levels were measured before and after the yoga intervention using the FACIT-F tool. A paired t-test was used to evaluate changes in scores. Results: Twenty-three participants enrolled in the study. Of these, nine completed both the pre- and post-intervention assessments. One participant completed only the pre-survey and passed away before follow-up. Participants varied in age, treatment type, and cancer diagnosis, though detailed stratification was beyond the scope of this pilot. Most participants reported improved physical fatigue and overall well-being following the yoga sessions, as reflected in the FACIT-F responses. However, the sample size limited item-level statistical analysis. The paired t-test revealed a mean score difference of -3.33 (SD = 11.9), indicating a modest reduction in fatigue post-intervention. Despite this trend, the results were not statistically significant, likely due to the limited sample. Discussion: Although not statistically significant, findings from this pilot suggest yoga may help alleviate CRF in patients undergoing active cancer treatment. The small sample size and variability in diagnoses, treatments, and demographics limit broader conclusions. Further research with a larger and more diverse population is needed to validate these preliminary findings. Future studies should include more detailed analysis of patient characteristics, cancer types, and item-level FACIT-F responses to better understand which aspects of fatigue respond most effectively to yoga-based interventions.
