| Sumario: | Significance & Background: Oncology nursing requires continuous learning due to rapidly evolving treatments. New nurses, especially with 1-2 years of experience, often face knowledge gaps. Patients depend on oncology nurses for accurate information and symptom management, making early education critical. Purpose: In an academic healthcare system, oncology nurse leaders and Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioners identified a need for targeted education through surveys. Results showed 21% of Cancer Center nurses had no oncology experience upon hire and requested ongoing specialty education. In response, the "Oncology Insight" series was launched in the form of one-hour sessions offered in-person and virtually. Interventions: The initial series focused on the following topics: Oncologic Emergencies, Navigating Treatment Plans, and Cancer 101. Each session averaged 25 participants and incorporated a variety of resources including: ONS Huddle Cards, ONS Podcasts, ONS Congress sessions, and EHR documentation tools. Sessions were designed with clear learning objectives, pre-session surveys, engaging content presentations featuring case studies and interactive questions, as well as post-session surveys and opportunities to earn Nursing Continuing Profession Development (NCPD) credit. All attendees were encouraged to complete both pre and post-surveys to evaluate changes in confidence and learning outcomes. Upcoming topics will expand to include: radiation oncology, genetics/genomics, pain management and care of the vascular access, impact of support services in cancer journey, to name a few. Results: Summary of the evaluations noted in attached file. Survey data showed significant improvements: Oncologic Emergencies: 37.5% increase in confidence; 100% strongly agreed the strategies enhanced learning. Treatment Plan Navigation: 92.3% strongly agreed strategies were effective; 97.4% said it would change their practice. Cancer 101: Increase in reported confidence level from 56% to 78.9%; 95% strongly agreed the session improved learning and practice. Participant feedback included: "Great class", "Great presentation", "love the Zoom option", "Great job". Discussion: Feedback underscores the value of ongoing Oncology Insight sessions. By supporting nurses early in their oncology careers, these sessions help shape the trajectory of professional growth, strengthen foundational knowledge, promote clinical excellence, and foster long-term retention. Equipping nurses with practice tools and resources enhances their confidence and competency, and contributes to improved patient care outcomes, ultimately driving quality and safety across the oncology care continuum.
