| Sumario: | The internet has become a vital part of everyday life. Adolescents are most vulnerable to problematic internet use due to their developing age, causing psychological, social, and academic issues. Family is the primary environment influencing adolescents. Limited studies have examined the role of family factors in problematic internet use. This systematic review examines family factors influencing adolescents problematic internet use, focusing on parental problematic internet use, parental mediation, and family environment. A comprehensive search was conducted across five databases - Scopus, PubMed, PsycINFO, JSTOR, and EBSCOhost from 2015 to 2025, of which 27 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the review. The results suggest that parental problematic internet use significantly affects adolescent problematic internet use through behavioral modeling. Parental mediation strategies are complex and have varied impacts. Active mediation is protective, while restrictive mediation shows mixed results as it is context-dependent. The family environment plays a crucial role, where conflict and dysfunction can increase the risk of problematic internet use, while cohesion and support are protective factors. A key finding of this review is the absence of studies from the Indian context. The review concludes that adolescent problematic internet use is deeply rooted in family systems. Thus, effective interventions for problematic internet use must address not only adolescents but also their families.
