| Sumario: | The article discusses issues concerning Western politics and social classes. The rise of cultural politics as an alternative to class politics for the radical left dates back to the 1960s. It is argued that western social democracy has been in accelerating decline over the past thirty years. The ascent of integrated world financial markets and the rapid development of digital communication and production technology have combined with expanding free-trade agreements to undermine the traditional elements of social democratic power. |
