Sumario:This article reports that book publishers' concerns over the acquisition of Ottakar's PLC by HMV Group PLC have been slapped down by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) in Great Britain, which described them as "speculative in nature." The OFT this week released the full text of its decision to refer the merger to the Competition Commission, stressing as primary reasons close competition between the retailers on non-price factors such as range and pre-sales service at the local level. The report also revealed that HMV offered a number of concessions in order to gain approval, but that the OFT decided these would not "alleviate the concerns raised about the removal of what is distinct to Ottakar's.
