Sumario:Aim: To assess, using Google Trends data, whether “65 Roses Day” and related awareness efforts are associated with increased online public interest in cystic fibrosis (CF) in Ireland. This retrospective infodemiological time-series study used Google Trends data for the search term “cystic fibrosis” in Ireland from January 2019 to December 2024. Relative search volume (RSV) values were analysed using RStudio. A two-sample independent t-test was performed to compare mean RSV in April, the campaign month, with all other months. Time-series decomposition and anomaly detection were also conducted using the R anomalize package to identify unexpected and recurring spikes in search activity. Statistical significance was set at α = 0.05.Search interest for “cystic fibrosis” showed consistent seasonal peaks each April across the study period. Mean RSV was significantly higher in April compared with other months (t = 5.42, p = 0.00174), indicating a recurrent increase in search activity during the campaign period. Time-series analysis demonstrated that peaks in search activity consistently aligned with the timing of the annual 65 Roses Day campaign. Anomaly analysis identified outlier spikes during April 2020, April 2021, and April 2023, while no other consistent anomalies were observed outside April.Public search interest in CF rises significantly during the 65 Roses Day campaign period, suggesting effective national engagement. Google Trends may provide a practical, real-time tool to assess the public impact of awareness initiatives and may help inform future health promotion strategies and future campaign evaluation.Subject and methods: To assess, using Google Trends data, whether “65 Roses Day” and related awareness efforts are associated with increased online public interest in cystic fibrosis (CF) in Ireland. This retrospective infodemiological time-series study used Google Trends data for the search term “cystic fibrosis” in Ireland from January 2019 to December 2024.
