For that reason, we argue for a Philosophy of Autonomous Science (PAS) : a program that translates core epistemic aims, including understanding, curiosity, surprise, interest, creativity, and novelty, into computable, nonanthropocentric objectives, while ensuring the safe and successful deployment of artificial scientists.
