      ab: The article focuses on the use of doxycycline prophylaxis to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea, particularly among sexual and gender minorities disproportionately affected by these infections. Recent clinical trials and implementation studies demonstrate that daily doxycycline or doxycycline taken within 72 hours post-exposure significantly reduces the incidence of Chlamydia trachomatis and Treponema pallidum infections, though it has limited impact on Neisseria gonorrhoeae due to existing antibiotic resistance. The study also highlights the feasibility and tolerability of combining doxycycline prophylaxis with HIV preexposure prophylaxis, with high adherence and minimal adverse effects reported. While concerns about emerging doxycycline-resistant Staphylococcus aureus exist, current evidence suggests that doxycycline prophylaxis may contribute to declining STI rates at the population level, underscoring the need for further research on antimicrobial resistance and implementation strategies.
