ab: • Escape rooms can be used for annual staff nurse education. • The escape room included 14 challenges and 13 locked boxes/bags. • Escape rooms provide a fun and unique way to promote teamwork and problem-solving. Each year, education is provided to enhance and reinforce staff nurses' knowledge and ensure safe, effective, patient-centered care. The purpose of this article is to describe the innovative escape room activity developed for a pediatric unit's annual nursing education. The leadership team was consulted on what educational content to include in the annual education. In addition, recently reviewed educational topics were reinforced during the escape room activity. Nurses, in groups of five and six, completed the one-hour escape room, which consisted of 14 clues and 13 locked boxes/bags. The nurses had 45 minutes to solve the puzzles and "Escape the Room", which was followed by a 15-minute debriefing session. The nurses completed a post-survey and reported being very satisfied with the escape room learning activity and expressed a desire for more learning activities like it in the future. Mandatory education can be enhanced by developing Escape Rooms that promote learning through teamwork and problem-solving.
