        Disorders of Gut–Brain Interaction are characterized by altered communication between the intestinal microbiota, the enteric nervous system, and the central nervous system. In pediatrics, these disorders such as infant colic, regurgitation, and functional constipation are common and affect both digestive health and emotional well-being. Advances in understanding the microbiota–gut–brain axis have led to the identification of psychobiotics as an emerging therapeutic strategy. These probiotics or prebiotics modulate neurotransmitters, reduce inflammation, and strengthen the intestinal barrier, positively influencing mood and cognitive function. Evidence suggests that psychobiotics act through the vagus nerve, the serotonergic system, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor. Although their safety and tolerability in children are favorable, robust clinical studies are needed to define optimal strains, doses, and treatment duration. The integration of omics tools and personalized medicine strengthens the potential of psychobiotics as preventive and therapeutic interventions in pediatric neurogastroenterology.
        Los trastornos del eje cerebro-intestino se caracterizan por una comunicación alterada entre la microbiota intestinal, el sistema nervioso entérico y el sistema nervioso central. En pediatría, estos trastornos como el cólico infantil, la regurgitación o el estreñimiento funcional son frecuentes y repercuten tanto en la salud digestiva como en el bienestar emocional. El avance en el conocimiento del eje microbiota-intestino-cerebro ha permitido identificar a los psicobióticos como una estrategia terapéutica emergente. Estos probióticos o prebióticos modulan neurotransmisores, reducen la inflamación y fortalecen la barrera intestinal, influyendo positivamente en el estado de ánimo y la función cognitiva. La evidencia sugiere que los psicobióticos actúan a través del nervio vago, del sistema serotoninérgico y del factor neurotrófico derivado del cerebro. Aunque su seguridad y tolerancia en niños son favorables, se requieren estudios clínicos robustos que definan cepas, dosis y duración óptima. La integración de herramientas ómicas y la medicina personalizada consolidan el potencial de los psicobióticos como intervención preventiva y terapéutica en la neurogastroenterología pediátrica.
