ab: Communication is a fundamental process for exchanging meanings and ideas among individuals. It is not limited to direct language; rather, it also includes suggestion and implicit means. Symbolism, on the other hand, is an expressive tool used to convey deeper meanings that transcend literal interpretation, thereby enriching discourse and allowing for multilayered readings. This research explores the nature of communication as a dynamic process aimed at conveying meaning between the sender and the receiver through various linguistic and aesthetic media, focusing on the unique characteristics of poetic discourse as a form of intensive communication. The researcher clarifies that communication in poetry is not confined to direct meaning; instead, it relies on suggestion, intensification, and displacement, thus opening the door to multiple interpretations. Hence, symbolic communication emerges as a fundamental mechanism in constructing poetic discourse, where symbols are employed to transcend political and social constraints and to convey profound messages related to Arab reality. The research focuses on the poetry of Muzaffar al-Nawab as a rich example of this type of communication. The poet employs political, historical, and religious symbols to construct a sharp critical discourse without resorting to crude directness. The researcher demonstrates that, for al-Nawab, symbolism is not merely decorative but an effective communicative tool that contributes to deepening the psychological and intellectual impact on the recipient. It also enhances the text’s ability to disseminate and influence, similar to the function of media discourse. The research includes applied poetic examples in which the researcher analyzes how symbolism is formed within the text, such as the invocation of historical figures or the use of place as a symbol of oppression or resistance. The study concludes that symbolic communication in Muzaffar al-Nawab’s poetry contributes to building a poetic media discourse capable of expressing the nation’s issues with boldness and innovation while preserving the text’s aesthetic appeal and semantic richness.
