To achieve this aim, a quasi-experimental design was adopted. Research instruments included a mental flexibility scale, mental openness scale, perceived self-efficacy scale, and cognitive style scale. The sample consisted of 80 ninth-grade students, intentionally selected from Al-Mehwar International Schools (private education) in Amman during the second semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. Students were classified according to cognitive style (risk-taking vs. caution) and gender, and then randomly assigned to experimental and control groups within each cognitive style. The results showed statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups on the post-test scores of mental flexibility, mental openness, and perceived self-efficacy, in favor of the experimental group. The findings also indicated statistically significant differences between students with a risk-taking cognitive style and those with a cautious cognitive style on mental openness, mental flexibility, and perceived self-efficacy, again in favor of the experimental group for both styles. Based on these results, the study recommends adopting the decision-making skills training program used in this research within school counseling activities and guidance classes, due to its effectiveness in enhancing mental flexibility, mental openness, and perceived self-efficacy among school students, with the possibility of adapting the program to suit different educational stages. pubtype: Academic Journal doctype: Article src: R language: Arabic refInfo: copyright: @attributes: flag: Y dt: @attributes: year: 2026 holdings: @attributes: islocal: N |
