| Sumario: | Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) are crucial for gathering limnological data, yet novice pilots face significant operational hurdles. This pioneering study, the first to focus on inspection-class micro-ROVs, identifies these challenges to improve ROV interfaces through a user-centered design approach. Qualitative data has been collected from 25 novice pilots using Likert scale through an online survey and analysed by modified DEMATEL method. This study identifies the key issues in the context of ROV operation regarding the outdoor work environment, user interaction with the ROV, and lack of awareness of Augmented Reality (AR) combined with hand-gesture input based user interfaces. This research contributes valuable information to the field of environmental and visual ergonomics, which may lead to better user interaction for novice ROV pilots. PRACTITIONER SUMMARY: The research was supported by the Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) under the IITG-TIDF initiative. The practitioners are exploring and providing solutions for underwater technologies.
