| Sumario: | The article presents information on learning disorders. The terminology used in learning disorders suggests that the area encompasses not a single field but several fields. The U.S. Office of Education has included children with learning problems in the category of orthopedically handicapped and health-impaired children. Whereas, in California the term educationally handicapped is included within it the two categories of emotionally disturbed and neurologically impaired. Michigan, in contrast requires that children admitted to its programs perceptually handicapped should be totally free from emotional or psychiatric problems. Finally it is concluded that learning disorders can be defined as those deviations in the learning processes which are associated with an educationally significant discrepancy between apparent capacity for language or cognitive behavior and actual level of language or cognitive performance. But within this broad definition, "language" must be understood as including vocal and motor expressive behaviors as well as the reception and manipulation of symbols.
