Patients commonly present with fatigue, constipation, generalized weakness, weight gain, cold intolerance, hair fall, and psychological disturbances. Individualized homoeopathic prescribing is based on the totality of characteristic symptoms rather than the pathological diagnosis alone. Case Summary: A 34-year-old female presented with gradually progressive heaviness of the whole body, generalized weakness, diffuse hair fall, constipation, body pain and emotional instability of six months' duration. Laboratory evaluation revealed an elevated thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level of 16.3 µU/mL, consistent with primary hypothyroidism. Detailed homoeopathic case taking elicited characteristic mental and physical generals including anxiety regarding health, fear of disease, strong sense of responsibility, desire for milk, aversion to meat, chilly thermal reaction and marked weakness. Repertorization was performed using RADAR (Complete Repertory 4.5), following which the totality was verified with Materia Medica. Calcarea Carbonica was selected as the constitutional remedy and prescribed in 200C potency. Outcome: Progressive improvement was observed in constipation, generalized weakness, body pain, heaviness, emotional state and hair fall during subsequent follow-ups. Repeat thyroid function testing after approximately three months showed normalization of TSH from 16.3 µU/mL to 3.49 µU/mL. Conclusion: This report describes the clinical course of a patient with primary hypothyroidism managed with individualized homoeopathic treatment.
