ab: Although Ariadna Șalari's name is only beginning to return to public attention, her work remains largely unexplored by literary criticism due to the barriers of the Cyrillic script or its ideological imprints. This study aims for a necessary literary recovery of two fundamental autobiographical novels: The Labyrinth (Labirintul, 1990) and The Outsider (Venetica, 1998). The biographical element becomes the central argument in articulating a narrative plot conceived as an authentic X-ray of Romanian society on both banks of the Prut River. Highlighting the traumas of Soviet totalitarianism and the mechanisms of Stalinism that mutilated destinies, these writings remain essential landmarks for reconsidering Romanian literature from Bessarabia through the lens of the oppressive historical context in which they were written.
