ab: This paper analyzes the evolution of Ștefan Gheorghidiu, the modern hero created by Camil Petrescu, as he confronts two essential experiences: love and war. Drawing on Gaston Bachelard's concepts regarding the significance of inner space, Monica Bottez's reflections on the relationship between space and time, and Edward Soja's spatial theory, the analysis highlights the ways in which different spatial experiences shape the protagonist's consciousness. The intimate space of love and the traumatic space of the battlefield foster a continuous expansion of Gheorghidiu's consciousness, sustained by a profound process of self-discovery.
