| Sumario: | This article discusses the applications of modern data processing at the U.S. Office of Education (USOE). The primary purpose of the office is to collect statistics and facts showing the condition and progress of education in several states and territories. Since its establishment in 1867, USOE has expanded and developed its resources as a collector and disseminator of educational information. In response to the need to provide sufficient abstracting, storing, and retrieving educational research information, USOE is making preparations for the establishment of a national educational research information service.
