      ab: The article discusses factors in brain aging. Generally, from the age of 20, a decline in a person's raw mental agility is apparent. As the brain grows older, it undergoes complex changes--from the biochemical, to the molecular, structural and functional--that lead it to shrink. This shrinkage, though universal, affects people's mental performance in very different ways. The author suggests that the acquisition of knowledge may obscure the consequences of age-related decline. Different biological theories are discussed. Suggestions for healthy aging are given.
