| Sumario: | The article presents information about a study of the academic progress of the students from Upstate New York Section who ranked in the top one percent in the High School Mathematics Contests during 1958 through 1960. One hundred twenty three students were involved in this study. These students were interested primarily in careers in chemistry, engineering, mathematics, physics, and teaching during their early undergraduate years. They also showed interest in actuarial science, architecture, business, computer programming, medicine, and music. There have been several changes in career plans and from the start there has been marked indecision on the part of some. The members of the group had interests and activities like those of ordinary boys and girls, and had been constructively occupied during summer. Twenty of the students in graduate work have teaching assistantships or fellowships of from $1350.00 to $3650.00 per year. The average grade over all subjects for the Upstate New York group is 2.99.
