Summary:The article explores the wider use of the term "hacker," which refers to those who tinker with electronics to improve or change their function, regardless of the manufacturers intent. Many examples are given to how technological products have been altered, sometimes at the expense of a manufacturers business model. Car electronics, the Microsoft XBox video game console, iPod and TiVo have all been altered by hackers. A magazine is published for such tinkering, titled "MAKE."
