| Sumario: | This article reports on Web services that are increasing used for deploying Web-based application portals such as eBay and Amazon.com. They are usually built using middleware, composable building blocs such as HTTP containers, Java-based application beans, and persistent state management. As Web services offer newer and more sophisticated functionality, the process of realizing those services in the middleware is further complicated.
