Amanda Ridout's unofficial campaign to push Bologna, Italy off the publishing calendar seemed dead in the water last week, as exhibitors luxuriated in open spaces, sunny skies and the fair's exclusive focus on children's books. Many attendees felt visitor numbers had been hit by the proximity of London Book Fair (LBF), particularly among British retailers--and the juxtaposition fuelled concern at the way LBF was run. Others were angered that the British Book Awards had been scheduled at the same time as Bologna.
