Sumario:An analysis of information systems (IS) as an applied discipline is presented. The author reviews how IS has been conceived as growing from other foundational fields. such as computer science, management science, and organization science. A description and analysis of the six major IS journals is presented. According to the author, the article presents the results of research using citation analysis to examine how frequently articles published in IS journals are cited by publications in other disciplines.
