During this period, 775 people of Asian descent suffered a fatal work injury. According to Census 2000, Asian-Americans accounted for 3.6 percent of the U.S. population; this percentage is likely to rise as more Asians continue to immigrate. The Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries recorded 775 fatal work injuries to Asian workers over the period. These fatal work injuries represent 3 percent of the total fatal workplace injuries occurring over those 5 years. All fatality rates are expressed as the number of fatalities per 100,000 employed persons. In 2000, foreign-born Asian workers accounted for 86 percent of all workplace fatalities incurred by Asians. From 2001 to 2003, this percentage remained close to that number, fluctuating between 83 percent and 87 percent. Over the 2000-03 period, foreign-born Asians accounted for 77 percent of Asian employment while accounting for 85 percent of the fatal work injuries.
