| Sumario: | The article discusses methods to develop English for Science and Technology (EST) paragraphs, including rhetorical process development and rhetorical function-shift development. The rhetoric process development produces a paragraph that contains a clearly stated core generalization and supporting information. In rhetorical function-shift development, there are no clearly stated core ideas. There are two research areas regarding lexical presuppositional information. One area is regarding changes in rhetorical function concomitant with regard to changes in tense. Another area is regarding changes in rhetorical function without changes in tense. There are three types of learning problems faced by elementary school students while learning EST paragraph development. Students were not able to differentiate between various rhetorical levels. Students may find it difficult to analyze some EST paragraphs because of the arbitrary nature of the division between some labeled functions. |
