| Sumario: | This article shows that there was really no connection between the mafarida and the diwan al-mufrad, an office established in the late 14th century for the purpose of exclusively financing the wages of the Sultani Mamluks. The author provides the reasons for his conclusion on the issue. A confusion that exists in research literature with regard to the identity of the mafarida soldiers is discussed. In addition, this article explores the affiliation of the mafarida and their position in the Mamluk Army. |
