Sumario:The article discusses Africa@home, a project that utilizes idle computer cycles to research malaria, which kills one million people a year in sub-Saharan Africa and is the biggest single cause of death in children under five. The project was begun by researchers at the University of Geneva, who developed a computer model for malaria epidemiology using 40 machines for preliminary studies. The intensive nature of epidemiology requires much more power, so a program that allows anyone to contribute spare computer cycles is available at www.africaathome.org.
