Summary:The article discusses the lack of solid information concerning the creation of computer software. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there were nearly three million people in the U.S. employed in the software industry in May 2005, but beyond this statistic there is little solid data on the computer software industry. This lack of data is attributed to many factors, including reluctance by companies to reveal how long their software projects take, how much they cost, and what the quality of software is.
