Sumario:This article presents an analysis of readability computer software and what it can teach authors about reader-friendly writing. Readability software both supports and supplements important information regarding sentence length and reading grade levels. Computer software programs discussed in the article include Microsoft Word, the Flesch Reading Ease Index, and Robert Gunning's Fog Index. The article encourages authors not to be afraid of using simple words and short sentences, which it further assures will not dumb down the writing but makes it easier to read and to understand.
