      ab: The article focuses on the benefits of pair programming in software development. The author identifies several characteristics of pair programming and discusses how programmers benefit from audio and visual cues when they work closely with a colleague on a common programming challenge. The author argues that successful globally distributed system development (GDSD) requires replicating the work environment, as closely as is possible, of work teams located in the same office. In order to do this, work teams need to use video, audio conferencing, and instant messaging programs efficiently and consistently. These systems have to be integrated into their programming work environment.
