| Sumario: | The article focuses on the developmental neurobiology of bipolar disorder and its role in predicting risk for future bipolar and substance use disorders. The brain development of an adolescent which can be disrupted by both disorders involves the pruning of neurons, effect of hormones and the maturation of the prefrontal cortex. Substance abuse increases the release of dopamine and D2 receptors. Family history is one of the risk factors of both disorders. |
