The author describes a number of technical and legal challenges related to the reuse of software components. The author describes European Union rules and regulations related to the use of third party software components. Under German law and European Union council directives on product liability, software vendors are responsible for any malfunction of their software, regardless of who manufactured the software component that causes the problem.
