ab: This article discusses product line life cycles. The authors note that, in effective product line practices, return-on-investment becomes essential in the decision-making process. A cost-estimation model for the product line life cycle is presented, serving as a framework to estimate the effects of software quality cost for enabling cost-benefit analysis of software product lines. The model takes into account product quality, and notes that the system can yield a large return-on-investment by accumulating the potential savings of reusing components after removing product defects.
