The Univac facility in Dallas was created to sell scientific computing services to the oil industry with the refinery management service based on a technology called linear programming as its primary product. For almost 2 years of operation, the company gained no profit and the machine Univac 1103 was earning little revenue for the company. To patch up the loss, the company's technical staff used to machine to explore new ideas. The special features of the machine, the audio output circuit, has led to the recovery of Univac which attracted its programmers headed by John Kamena, to produce musical tones on the standard western scale.
