Sumario:The article presents a study that indicates that strategic refactoring with the use of design patterns is the most effective way to repair decaying code for object-oriented systems. Strategic refactoring involves design pattern based refactoring with architectural awareness. The simple and efficient process of strategic refactoring and a case study about the application of strategic refactoring are presented. The study suggests that software systems be extended and modified accordingly as new requirements, constraints, and environment emerge.
