Summary:The article examines the relationship between Australian novelist Katharine Susannah Prichard and American publisher William Warder Norton and the history of the publication of the U.S. edition of Prichard's novel "Haxby's Circus." Authors were forced by laws preventing U.S. editions to be sold in Australia to turn to England for publishing success. Norton had a direct personal interest in Australian literature. Norton was involved in preparing the U.S. edition of the novel.
