Summary:The author gives his opinions on and some solutions to current problems surrounding the software development industry. Particular focus is given to the idea of software development as an art rather than an engineering science. It is the author's view that the consuming public is more responsible than the software industry for stagnant software production by allowing mediocrity in the product. He also points out that software managers focus more on enforcing processes and methodologies rather than the underlying problem. He feels that this type of leadership only delays the product's development.
