Sumario:The article provides a detailed comparison of the differences between the Consumer Expenditure Survey (CE) and estimates of personal consumption expenditure (PCE) in the U.S. Previous research comparing CE and PCE are highlighted, while a discussion on the foundations of CE and PCE are presented. It reveals that the three major reasons for differences between CE and PCE estimates are the methodology of the two surveys, their scope in terms of both whose expenditures are being measured and how expenditures are defined, and the definitions they employ.
