Along with Xilinx, Altera, Actel, Lattice Semiconductor, and Atmel all manufacture and sell the technology. An FPGA is defined by the author as a semiconductor made up of programmable logic elements, interconnects, and input/output blocks. The FPGA is designed to be runtime user-configurable to allow implementing complex digital circuits.
